The Siege of fort William Henry is an infamous part of American history, taking place during the French and Indian War. The French army of 9,000 men, including more than 1800 Native Americans laid siege to the fort for 6 days.
The British held out for as long as they could, but ultimately could not withstand the onslaught of the French and their Indian allies. The attack and subsequent massacre became a rallying cry for the British and helped them to recruit more provincial troops for the war.

The British eventually won the French and Indian War, and expelled the French from North America.
The cost of the war, and other broken agreements directly lead to the American Revolution.

The Siege of Fort William Henry most famously is the backdrop to the classic American novel, "The Last of the Mohicans."

This video is a short clip from a full length documentary.

After 6 long days of enduring the onslaught of the French artillery, the men in Fort William Henry held a council of war. They evaluated the French positions and the state of their artillery.
