I've been testing this out for a few days already, I can say that it defiantly isn't able to do complicated tasks, it really needs to be fine tuned, sadly, gpt4 doesn't offer fine tuning. It's 95% of the time it does its job, but often gets sidetracked 5 minutes later on, forgets its goals, really doesn't self improve from its own criticism, moves on to something else unrelated to the goals. It's like GPT4 just needs to be a little bit more powerful and this thing would work perfectly.

I'm surprised you did not mention this. This technology is perfect for replacing a bunch of jobs like accounting, tax preparing, attorneys for purchasing real-estate, ...etc. For example cloud service programmers where the way of programming cloud system is in a few well-defined manuals. It's going to replace the cloud programmer. The user will issue a high level goal, the AI will created a plan that can be reviewed and edited by the users. After all the editing, the AI will go off to create the cloud system. This can apply to many professional jobs.

Yes, Matt, at the beginning, I was as enthusiastic as you when I opened your video. But then, when I watched with my own eyes what the AI was capable of, I felt at risk. Especially when the AI started to search and create things on its own initiative and aggressively looking for the best way to find people's information, I felt vulnerable. Usually, I'm the paladin of AI and I'm the typical guy who responds to comments with "It depends on how technology is used if it can harm us" when people accuse it. But today was different. I felt myself pushed aside as a human. I felt as if there was no more space to think and maneuver for our species. I felt like a secondary intelligence on this planet because AI was faster, smarter, and more capable than me in doing what I usually do in months and, in some cases, years. The question here is always the same: if we don't develop AI, we risk falling and having a technological block for the rest of human history. If we do develop strong AI, well, I don't know how to say it, but I don't see much space for us. We're starting to become useless monkeys in front of these technologies, and I don't know what to do or say. Just that I'm bloody scared.

Firstly Matt, thank you very much for pointing this out and showing us that this even exists. Because before yesterday I had no idea that someone created something like Auto GPT. 🙂
Highly appreciated. And I love the way you did this video. Your curiousness, your genuine interest, and your enthusiasm helped to make watching this a breeze.

Let me help you out as a software developer with some experience (more than 20 years in Germany and Switzerland together.):

1.) Firstly, the output is determined by the prompt it gets.
2.) Yes, errors can happen.
For example, if GPT-4 doesn't let you create the output for a safety reason that has been built into GPT-4 this AI will get stuck.
An unrestricted AI could do this thing much more likely, but could also be a potential danger for sure. So, we can't say this is GPT-4's fault or OpenAI's fault.
3.) It uses so-called JSON responses, so some of the text that confused you was just the runtime-assembled JSON outputs (very common nowadays for so-called REST-APIS, which is normally nothing else as one acronym after another to access the web or other online services :-)).
Which is a kind of text format that is more streamlined. So it uses fewer bytes than XML. But it's also 1:1 translatable from one format into the other.
4.) The generated JSON formats are used as another input.
5.) Some restrictions were shown because it seemed like you didn't register for the API keys.

You skipped either some instructions or didn't direct the audience towards those, which I think is just a lack of knowledge and not on purpose. :-) So you're good.

It has a ways to go. Once people are using this with local models and other SERP providers other than just google; then shit will get real. People have tweaked this to actually *do* things on the internet and on their computer CLI(super sketchy).

Currently it seems like Roleplaying still for doing things by itself.

This is the future for sure. The future is local and intermittently on/off cloud.

Local APIs, local Models, Local Memory and data. Limited and intermittent connections to limit risks and increase safety.

Speaking to upcoming regulations too, if this sort of thing gets too much concern surrounding it, they will probably try to criminalize people for just being interested in autonomous agency.

I wonder if the autonomous mode has any understanding of what is illegal. I can see it creating scam websites selling products that don’t exist based simply on the command to maximize net worth. The question then arises about the user facing legal repercussions for what his AI assistant did without his knowledge.

yes, we need to be careful.
It is easy to loose sight of what you/we are doing, and only noticing when its too late.
We want Ai to be smart, so we need to be too.

Could you ask it how to convert the \n characters to newlines? In Linux/Bash something like echo -e $(cat file.txt) would work.
