Honestly, I cried a lot during this film lol

Florence Pugh can't keep saving movies. I think Little Women was the last film where she had a run for her money, and even then she was a standout.

Once again sounds like Florence Pugh is in a film that doesn't deserve her talent. For the record though some AA and NA meetings are held together because a lot of times drinking and drugs go together so they try to heal both sides of the addiction. Speaking from personal experience 😊

The scene where she berates herself in front of the mirror is so powerful! I’ve been there plenty of times

I usually agree with you all, but I actually really enjoyed this film. It was certainly messy, but I think Pugh really was so good it made me disregard it

As a guy in recovery I can inform you AA was the first 12 step program. This program has branched out to many forms of addictions. NA is a 12 step program for Narcotic addictions. However many addicts see benefits in going to AA meetings due to the existing long term sobriety. Also some people feel safer attending AA meetings instead of for example CMA meetings (chrystal meth) due to the fact that such meetings might be very triggering. And again long term sobriety is more rare in these 12 steps meetings.

You guys kept going through story elements they had in the movie that I straight up forgot about cause they didn’t focus the story

Once the thing happened, I thought, "uh oh. She's gonna have to listen to a lot of The Shins."

The film was good overall. A bit messy but Florence Pugh is a hell of an actor.

I attended a press screening last night, and I'm so conflicted. I feel like so much more could have been done with this film, and it would have been so much better as a truly ensemble piece. I would have loved to see more of Nathan's life in the city after the break-up with Florence's character and death of his sister. How is he grieving the loss of his only sibling? Why has he chosen to be largely absent from his niece's life? I think a more interesting story would have been the niece bouncing back and forth between the grandfather and her Uncle Nathan. Sort of like a child of divorce being bounced back and forth between two parents who hate each other. They both love her but have issues with each other and grievances to work out. Florence's character could still be centered, and even the impetus for all of the characters to reexamine their relationships and try to move forward.

One of the critics who attended pointed out that it felt uncomfortable/odd to see the black characters grief barely explored and their stories barely developed in comparison to the white lead. The critic felt like the movie was entirely about absolving Pugh's character of her guilt.

I agree with you guys a lot but you're wrong on this one. It played out perfectly. You didn't need to see the relationship deteriorate. Let's see you accidentally kill your finances sister and then just move on. She can't be in the relationship anymore cause of the guilt. She explained it fine. I thought the interaction between Florence and the niece was great. I never cry at movies and this one made me cry twice. The scene where she looks at her phone to check out his IG and the talk they have later on about the life they might have had. The acting was so good. And you felt the pain. This was an excellent movie.

Damn. That’s a lot of miserableness. Great video, as always. Love Florence Pugh.

I think you guys are way too harsh. This was very well done.

You guys always come up with a better story. Maybe with some flashbacks thrown in as well. Thank you.

I'm editing: please review Lady Macbeth on the podcast. I was blown away when it first came out. The viciousness of her character still sticks with me.

I really liked Garden State, and I had mixed feelings about this trailer. I might give it a shot at some point, but it sounds like a bit too much work for a pretty depressing movie.

AA and NA are not the same thing but they are very similar. AA was founded in 1935 and the original alcoholics anonymous book was published in 1939. It focused on alcohol, therefore people who were addicted to other substances felt somewhat ostracized, because they felt awkward about talking about their specific issues. Therefore, in 1953 NA was started and focused on people who were powerless over not alcohol, but narcotics. After this many more 12 step programs were started, such as marijuana anonymous, heroin anonymous, gamblers anonymous, over eaters anonymous, cocaine anonymous, crystal meth anonymous, and so on. At the end of the day, addiction is a brain disorder that has the same symptoms regardless of what the substance one is addicted to. Loss of employment, loss of relationships loss of housing, lost of physical health, loss of mental health, incarceration, institutionalization, death. Great review gentlemen, the movie sounds contrived, melodramatic and the dynamic that the film focuses on, is misguided and ill conceived. That is all. Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. It definitely sounds like a mixed bag.

I hope Joseph will watch Lady Macbeth some time and you guys can review it because BOY does that movie take some turns!
