A quick discussion and tips on night hiking! Welcome to my hiking tip series. To start, we will be taking a look at why night hiking should be an option for you. With winter upon us it's getting darker earlier... but... there are reasons to get outside on a trail at night!

I've gone "night camping" where I stay up all night for the same reasons. All your other senses are heightened and there is kind of a primal feeling about it. Thanks for sharing man :-)

Love the shirt! Only time I have night hiked is when I overestimate my ability to get from point A to B. When that happens I mistake every branch and root for a giant man eating snake 🐍

Nice tips man. Going outside at night is like going outside in the winter. It gets you out when others don't want to be, but takes more skill, gear and has more dangers. Its good for us crazy people who enjoy the creepy nights and the freezing winter!!! Take Care

Night hiking is great during winter, when the snow gets lit up really good by the full moon. Very peaceful experience - until you suddenly hear a crazy killer moose jumping around and breaking thick branches just 15 feet away, lol! This has happened twice, so it feels a bit reassuring to have a somewhat bright flashlight to alert my presence, as well as for me to check that the angry moose ran away, and is not lurking in the bushes right next to where im heading 😶

Great advice. I have done a few night Moon Hikes in the winter and it has been amazing. I might have to do more night Hikes!

Went on a solo night hiking once. Even tho it was a good area with little criminal activity, I say it's still a good idea to have something to defend yourself. Even a small pocket knife would do in a just in case scenario.

Why wear the light on your head? If you have the light source lower (waist height) it's much less likely to shine the light directly into someones eyes.
You might sill want to have a headlamp with red light (that doesn't blind others) to see what's in front of your face and torso. But a white headlamp seems to be an overkill. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
