In my opinion it’s a coil defect. I’ve seen and have some subs with coils that are charred from heat and still ohm and work fine.

I recently repaired a relatively new alpine type r 12 that had a break in the coil wire between the solder pad and the coil on the former. It didn’t appear to have been pushed hard. The owner replaced it with another type r and hasn’t had an issue.

Please if you have the time, unwind it and let us know what you find.

Doesn't look discolored from heat. Most of PE coils have light and dark areas in the coating on the coils. I have tons of their coils, and some are light colored, some are very dark, and some are a combination of both light and dark. Not saying it isn't possibly abuse, just seems to be the bottom end of the coil.. and the upper section seems a tad darker as well. In most cases, it's the center sections and below that gets dark from abuse and or heat... From my experience. But that's not always the case.

To me if the voice coil isn't burned or beat from bottoming out then it looks like a defect in the manufacturer of the coil

If he pushed it above recommended rms power then its on him imo. But if he kept it in parameters then its the coil.

How much would you say is the most power you would run daily on an RE Triple X 15? Rated 2000w. It's the model right after the Xbl^2 / 05 model. I have a pair & I'm considering running a Smart 3k on each in around 3.2 ft^3 per sub (The minimum ported recommended spec) Thoughts? Thanks 🙏🏼

Well you offer top of class 3 yr warranty soooo I'd say offer him a discount say 1.5 yrs give 50 percent off. That is if ya don't find a coil flaw. Would coil manufacturer pay for another build if in fact coil is the cause?

Would be hard to say how long did they run it for defective stuff doesn't last long if it over a year I would then idea lean towards ran hard or if the costumer has a reputation of distorting stuff ran hard.🎵🎶✌️

Well FU audio was having the same problems with their voice coils with the 750 series, , , my thing is if he was really abusing the sub wouldn't The Spider and Surround have Tell-Tale signs as well it doesn't even look broken yet
