How many items should I sell on eBay to make an income? If you're interested in selling stuff on eBay to make money then you might be surprised just how many sales you will actually need to get your amount of desired profit. In this video I give you an example of how I pay myself as a full time reseller and how many items I personally need to sell each day, at my current average sale price, to be able to bring home my desired $1000 per week income (after taxes and expenses).

Bought my first bulk lot two weeks ago....I've listed four and kept about 15 for myself so far. Lol. 200 to go!

That was a good summary of an important topic. I hope people who are thinking of selling online (or those that think it's easy money) get to see this because it's a good reality check. If anyone had told teenage me that I'd ever find spreadsheets super important and useful, I would have laughed in their face!

Another great video Mel! Very well explained! Everybody's journey and idea of a 'good income' is totally dependant on the individual. Do what works best for you and you'll be happy! 😄💚

Another consideration (I have not heard any resellers mention) is the space one has or hasn't to store the inventory. I'm currently trying to find the space without living like a hoarder, also without the expenses of rental storage space. Thank you for yr generous information 😊

depends on the profit margin of each item...my average profit margin after all ebay fees (i have a zero cost of good because i collect things from various local sources) for feb 1 thru feb 26 (today) is $99.76...with only 49 listings sold so far, my total gross sales is 4888.00 and my net sales after all ebay fees are 3522.00, then minus my mailing supply fees of 50.00 for this month, so im doing close to 3400.00 (minus another 30% for tax payment, and that brings my profit for the month down to 2380.00...im currently down 15% and 20% respectively compared to last month because i chose to sell less in ebay and do more local sales. i live comfortably with my ebay and local sales during the first two months of the year . and no, i dont have a regular job since the start of covid, so two years now no regular job.

As someone who does this on the side just for extra money, I keep a monthly excel sheet of what I spend on inventory, what sold, subtract fees and the difference is what I profit a month. I don’t spend much on supplies and from time to time I make extra on shipping so I figure those two even out. So I just look at it in monthly terms. It’s not much I average a few hundred a month on slow months. Close to a thousand on better months.

Great info and questions. It's a little different for everyone based on What theiir required income is, what their ASP is, how easily and inexpensively they can re-accuire inventory. Great video.

I've been watching you a while and I love your videos but this one helped heaps. My 13year old is looking for a bread and butter option to start that will help him. This will help explain the responsibility and level or sales needed.

Glad this method is working for you. Good video for new sellers to know what they need to sell to make the income they're after!

Thank you for running over the numbers. It actually makes sense now!! I always wondered about the numbers but to take 30% at the average sale price you need to sell X. Then X for tax and X for running costs.
It's quite obvious now that I have seen and heard you explain it but until you said it. For me and I'm sure others, it was not obvious how to break down the numbers.

Great video Mel. I can totally relate to your story…on a break from my “other job” for a medical reason and have discovered reselling whilst starting my budgeting channel. I’m starting slowly just selling things around the house and will see where it takes me.
