Wells lived at a time when it was relatively hard to find anything written about early Chinese history in English and where there was a great deal of prejudice which colored the way in which many historians viewed China's place in world history. Yet, despite all of that, H.G. Wells did an excellent job explaining the basics of early China to his audience and this section of his work holds up pretty well.
