Among the 36 top hydro stations with installed capacity of 227.84GW
Pakistan, Tajikistan and Argentina each has 1 hydro contributing 2.15%, 1.32% &1.36% respectively
Venezuela, Canada and US each has 2 hydro contributing 5.88%, 4.85% & 4.31% respectively
Russia has 4 hydro contributing 9.11%
Brazil has 7 hydro contributing 20.87%
China has 16 hydro contributing 50.16%

China's rise in hydro power generation is quick recently. In 1966 US was at the top when China ranked 10th. The first time China became the biggest hydro power was in 2004 when China took the pole position from Canada. China's Three Gorges Dam commenced commercial operation in 2003 with just 6 out of its 32 turbines operating.

It should be noted that, although China's hydropwer plants have great generator capacity, the actual average production rate can be less than half, due to climate reason. (With half a year no much water in turbines, and a quarter of the year too much water for turbines and the grid.)

In Skardu Kazartha Dam if I am pronouncing it correctly can produce 18000 MW but the rulers go for dams where they can commission immediately
