Groove In G | Playing For Change | Song Around The World

We started this track in West Africa with a musical group named Tinariwen. We asked them to play a groove in the key of G, then as we traveled the world we added more musicians to the song. Over the course of our travels, it transformed into a global jam with its roots in the blues.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

Just as I was brought to tears upon the first video release (Stand By Me) so many years ago, I am now transported to a degree of sanity and hope for our Earth and children's futures in 2022. I've written these folk before, but "Thank You" again, for making a difference. That's all I had ever hoped to do with music. I know I've accomplished little in my music life, though many have thanked me for what little I have done; what small but positive effect myself and my music mates had on their day. But you all at PFC have far surpassed 'making a difference'. PFC is a living entity which has changed lives. I'd argue this phenomenon has even extended lives. There's no knowing what This Life may owe to some; but PFC would have to be high on grateful list.

Almost 10 years after this was posted on YouTube, I’m sitting here in California dealing with wildfires and smoke, climate change and the CoVID-19 pandemic. This music is a great salve for my soul. God bless you all at Playing For Change!

I have been listening to songs from "Playing for Change" for a while and come to a conclusion that this song is my favorite. I could listen to it for hours, without overloading my senses. There's an understated elegance to it, without being flashy.

As much credit MUST go to the unsung magician known as the engineer on this track. SO CRAZY to take all of these random musical submissions from all over the world and mix them seamlessly to create this beautiful real music symphony. Big Respect to you master engineer.
