“You’re Not Ugly You Just Have Cortisol Face” #what

The overuse of terms like “rebalancing hormones” by people with normal hormone levels can lead to misattributing the causes of their perceived problems, while also undermining those who genuinely suffer from hormonal imbalances. Many individuals attribute common issues such as mood swings, fatigue, or weight gain to hormone imbalances without medical evidence, often seeking solutions like supplements or fad diets that promise to "rebalance" hormones.

In reality, most people have normal hormonal fluctuations that are a natural part of daily life, and their symptoms may be caused by lifestyle factors like stress, poor diet, or lack of sleep rather than a true hormonal disorder. By overgeneralizing these conditions, it minimizes the seriousness of actual medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), that require medical diagnosis and treatment.

This trend not only distracts from addressing the real causes of common problems but also dilutes the conversation around legitimate hormonal issues, making it harder for those with genuine conditions to be understood and receive proper care.

This kind of information can cause serious harm. So glad you’re calling it out doc.

Speaking of unrealistic beauty expectations... I'm 13, and I've been sick of those "Girl" aesthetics (clean girl, that girl...) showing unrealistic expectations, especially about appearance and physique. I don't have body dysmorphia, but I just... can't look at them anymore.

Thank you, these fb cortisol people are driving me nuts. It's like a toddler that learned a new word

Oh my gosh THANK you. As someone who actually has problems with elevated cortisol levels (confirmed by blood and 24 hour urine tests multiple times), seeing this become the new trend of insecurity fed to women is hella scary!!

I'm a type 1 diabetic and when she said "balance your insulin levels" my eyes rolled a state over. People really don't know what they're talking about

so instead of "you're not ugly, you just have cortisol face" its the same old "you're not ugly, you're just broke." love how non professionals on tik tok just come up with new terminology to sell their products :)

Also, stressing over possibly having "cortisol face" just raises your cortisol levels. 😂

Thank you for posting. Wellness influencers are honestly diabolical.

The tragedy is... Having Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since 3... In the eighties... I got that face and saw so many of my friends at the hospital etc with 'moon FACE' they called us... That child is FORTUNATE not to know what ACTUALLY is the lives, feelings, social outcasts of true "cortisol face".... Which eventually is CORTISONE steroid face cause their/my body can't produce it.

I'm grateful for your channel and patient support! More people like this please!!!

She and the people backing her deserved this response. Playing doctor to sell products is BS. They shouldn't be diagnosing customers.

Thank you! I actually believed this. I feel a lot better not having to worry about another thing "wrong" about me. Ironically, I think your video reduced more cortisol than videos like that did.

you (understandably) sound so exasperated lol
but yeah, this is a thing that has been going on for ages, "you're not ugly, you just [totally innacurate excuse for a normal human being not meeting their beauty standards]". I'm glad someone is speaking up about it

I have PCOS(IR) that was only diagnosed bc I was OBSESSED with my health and weight in an EXTREMELY unhealthy way. After 5 years of misery, swelling, weight gain marginal weight loss and being super self conscious bc I couldn't do cardio for 2 hrs at a time 3-5 days a week or afford even marginally healthy food (Ramen noodle budget WITH debt) my first really bad flare up at 160lbs had my face looking like I was 200lbs. It's hard enough trying to accept my body the way it is rn compared to how it used to be, even though I achieved that body through an unhealthy mindset. What these influencers have to say is SOOO tempting to listen to. I want an easy fix for all the big symptoms that affect the way I feel and the little symptoms that affect the way I look. And I want to find information without having to take hours out of my day, or making a doctor's appointment every time I experience a new symptom. And I want solutions to be accessible for people who are underinsured like I was and like the female members of my mother's family were... leading to my sister and I not having proper information before 30.

Sometimes a spade is a spade, I might be stressed all the time, but I am ugly for other reasons.

Equating cortisol, insulin, and looks all together is so funny... Like girly really just picked two random medical terms and said that'll do. You might as well say "your not ugly, you just have progesterone face. Balance your urea levels to fix it"

Thank u bc so many lil influencers love diagnosing people on the internet

Thanks a lot for debunking this. I've been seeing this go viral everywhere as they are talking about this "cortisol face" and I started to wonder if I have that or not 🤦‍♀️

I’m so tired of constantly having to fix or do or make myself perfect ever single part of our body and face it just being scrutinised like we are not good enough😢 it’s so tiring..
