Photo 1 "UN HLM on NCDs side-event": The IFRC presented the 4x4x4 approach: 4 common Non-Communicable Diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases); 4 common risk factors : (unhealthy diets, tobacco use, physical inactivity, harmful use of in alcohol); 4 common lines of action : (public policy, legislation, prevention, health system strengthening).

But they cannot bring about change alone.

Photo 8 Professor Uwe Reinhardt from Princeton University reminded the audience that part of this community-based effort must be to make the individual be both able and willing to play an active role in the management of his or her own health.

Photo 9 Dr Julia Seyers, medical advisor from the World Medical Association, WHPA gave a short introduction of a health scorecard for prevention and control of NCDs. "It is a simple, universal educational tool which allows everyone to assess and record their lifestyle/ behavioural and biometric risk factors. It helps individuals and their health professional take a proactive approach to prevent NCDs and associated disability."
