Metal's most famous whammy system takes a few extra steps to get ready for action, but this short demo makes it a cinch.

The best thing about a Floyd other than the way it stays in tune is the ability to salvage a broken string within a minute or two by allowing extra slack for a break. Unlock and pull some down, re lock, fine tune and you're good. I think many people don't appreciate or maybe even know this little old school gem.

It'd be helpful to mention that when the nut block is removed before putting it on and locking it down... now's a good time to adjust the fine tuner all the way out except for ( and this is personal preference ) one FULL turn. As the strings stretch you'll always be turning it in. Thanks guys

How in hell this guy does in less than 5 minutes what everybody else takes over 20? This is how DIY videos should be... let's go, let's do it and be done!

I broke a string on my FR guitar literally weeks ago and I've been putting off changing it because I thought it would be a huge pain. Thank you for giving a simple explanation of how to do it!

If you care...since 1985 I've been stringing my Floyds by running the ball end through the tuner hole (not cutting it off). I never remove the locking nut plates. Much faster, and I've never had to worry about how many windings I get around the tuner.

Love my Floyd equipped guitars. If you’re a Floyd fan and looking for a handy hex wrench, Floyd Rose sells this new tool called a HexHider which hides the hex on the guitar and is great for string changes AND for resetting the fine tuners as the strings stretch or change in temp at an outdoor gig. Great for stage. I won’t gig without one.

Remember to make sure your strings are fully stretched and stabilized BEFORE you lock the nut clamps.

I would have included some advice on stretching the strings out before locking the nut down. It can avoid or reduce some of the inevitable re-tuning that comes with new strings.

I like to leave the ball end on and string it through the tuning peg.
I like to think that it adds mass to the headstock.
