Today we’re going to talk about the side effects of birth control pills. I wanted to create some awareness about what ’s going on and the long-term effects I’ve seen in women who take birth control pills.

Women typically take birth control pills either to prevent pregnancy or to help with an uncomfortable and irregular cycle. Birth control pills are basically estrogen, but they can have other things in them as well.

Some risk factors of birth control pills:
• Cancer
• Fibroids
• Endometriosis
• Low thyroid
• Yeast infection
• Acne
• Weight gain
• Cysts

Alternative birth control options:
• Condoms
• Diaphragm
• Lady Q stick

Every woman I know is on birth control. My aunt used to get birth control injections. She did this for about a year. After that one year, she went for her yearly mammogram and they discovered advanced stage 4 breast cancer. She died shortly after her diagnosis. I feel a great injustice and not enough effort made about warning women of the severe risks of birth control pills or any synthetic hormones. Thank you Dr.Berg!

Birth control made me sick for 10 years. Always sick. No doctors could say it, they only kept changing the pill. When I finally decided to be off, I never felt so good in my life, all the misery of being feeling depressed, hair loss, fatigue, bloating, all gone. They don’t explain to patients how bad it is, they just wanna you to take it because it makes them money. Great video btw!

My 20 year old daughter passed away in September of 2018 as a result of blood clots. She may have had a genetic predisposition to clotting and the clots were triggered by the hormonal birth control pills she was prescribed. I certainly caution ladies against using birth control based on our family’s experience. Also please learn as much about your paternal and maternal medical history as possible. Many medications in general are capable of triggering underlying serious medical conditions. Please men and women, as far as your health is concerned, be careful and be informed. Thank you doctor for this video.

This video almost gave me a heart attack but I'm glad I watched it. I've been on birth control pills from age 18 to now (age 48). I can't believe my doctors over the years have not explained these long term risks to me or suggested alternatives!

I’m mad that no doctor ever told me about the problems with birth control until Dr. Berg. Dr. Berg is now my go-to doctor via YouTube videos. His videos has helped me more than any of my MDs.🤫

Dr. Berg, I have Stage IV Endometriosis...my body does not tolerate birth control pills. I had open surgery last April; they removed 11 fibroids, my left tube and 2 ovarian cysts. I was put on the pill...I gained 25 pounds in three months. I tested positive for estrogen dominance by a naturopath and told my doctor. (She looked at me like I was crazy.) She wants to do a hysterectomy because she believes the endo is now on my intestines but said there's no way to know. How can you NOT see endometriomas on the intestines? I never got to have children, so this is devastating. OBGYN's don't seem to care about the dangers of the pill and environmental estrogen.

Estrogen dominance is a huge problem these days, not only for many, many women, but also for men. We are consuming xeno-estrogens (bad) at an alarming rate and it's affecting everyone.
Birth control pills contain synthetic Estrogen which sets the stage for all sorts of biological issues, breast cancer to name just one.
The estrogen receptors in our bodies (both male and female) will uptake anything that mimics natural oestrogen... and some of the xeno-estrogens are 200 times stronger than that of natural oestrogen produced in the body - this spells trouble having that much estrogen circulating through the body. So, Estrogen receptors are filled up (like a lock (receptor) and key (xeno-estrogen) with "bad" estrogen and good estrogens (natural body estrogen and phyto-estrogens (plant), cannot get into the lock because it's already full.
I3C (Indole 3 Carbinol) is the ingredient in cruciferous vegetables responsible for whisking these bad estrogens out of the body. I3C is available in supplement form and should be considered by anyone who suffers estrogen dominance (google search 'estrogen dominance symptoms in females and males")
For women nearing menopause, dwindling Progesterone is also a big problem and may lead to estrogen dominance as well. Bio-identical progesterone cream can be a huge game-changer, along with supplementation of I3C.
Estrogen dominance is a big problem that many, many doctors are still not up to speed on. I literally had to educate my doctor - he had no clue.
Thanks Dr Berg for touching the surface on this critical topic.

Dr Eric Berg what are your thoughts on POP pill (progestin only) pills fighting estrogen dominance? Since women as we age lose progesterone and become more estrogen dominant anyhow, could it be possible to benefit from switching to just the POP pill to supplement? I really hope you can answer me. Thank you for the great videos!

Thank you, Dr. Eric for spreading the awareness, although this is a difficult topic. I've never taken a pill in my life, simply because it seems unnatural to take some kind of a pill to control my natural symptom. However, recently my manager and I had a small talk on period. I was simply surprised that many of us women take them not only to control birth but also to control cramps and other negative symptoms. I'm more than shocked to learn this. I also now feel the pressure that women must work functionally even if we might be feeling differently during the period. I usually stop taking caffeinated drinks during my period, so I usually slow down but that doesn't mean that my work is not efficient.

Some who have taken the pill for many years might also have iron issues. My UIBC and TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity; Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity) levels were way off as well as transferrin and ferritin. The regular iron test result might look normal, however. UIBC, TIBC, transferrin and ferritin levels are usually not on the regular tests run.

Birth control pills make me crazy. In fact, I think taking them in my 20s has caused some long-term effects, even though I haven't taken them in years.

Can high estrogen, anti androgen pills trigger hair loss after like 2 years of use? Sounds weird but I truly suspect it is triggering it.

Hi, do you have a video about how to cure endometriosis and cysts? It was a very useful video.

Great little talk :-) I don't know why people would not welcome this information... It seems pretty basic, to me... However, I think "Neem Oil" should also be considered for Birth Control... I don't know if there are any recent studies, but what I've read, it is also a great Male contraceptive... In India, men have been using it for years... Something to consider...

Hi Dr. Berg! What would you say about a dermatologist prescribing birth control for acne? I’ve found your videos helpful, and I would like to know your thoughts on birth control being prescribed for other benefits outside of contraceptive.

How long does it take for the body to get rid off all the bad sides of the birth control pills and extra estrogens? I used it for a couple of years (5-7yrs maybe, but had some gaps in between for months or a yr), and stopped it now for good, I'm 25old. Thank you!

Hey Dr. Berg I take birth control solely for acne. It was the only thing that worked (although I have not tried accutane) After starting to take bc, I noticed many endometriosis symptoms. I want to stop taking it but I do not want cystic acne. I What can I do if my acne is hormonal?
