What is Energy and examples related to energy,
Units of Energy,
Various form of energies,
Potential Energy , Kinetic Energy
Chemical Energy, Heat Energy, etc
Conservation in Simple Pendulum,
Conversion of Energy from one form to another,
Energy is defined as the capacity to do work.
Examples related to energy:
1. A car running on a highway possesses energy as it doing work.
2. When boy kicks a football and the football moves.
3. A weightlifter raises a heavy load.
4. Children are playing among themselves.
Work energy relationship
#If an object works than its energy decreases.
#If work is being done on an object , then energy of object increases
Units of energy
SI unit of energy is joule
Energy of an object is said to be one joule if it has the capacity to do one joule of work.
Other units of energy
calorie ( cal)
kilo calorie (kcal )
A calorie is a unit of energy which is commonly used to express heat energy.
1 calorie =4.186 joule or 4.2 J
Kilocalorie is a bigger unit of heat energy.
1 kilocalorie = 1000 calorie = 4186 joule
Mechanical energy
Chemical Energy
Heat Energy
Light energy
Sound Energy
Electrical Energy
The energy stored in an object when it is at rest is called its potential energy. This energy is due to the position of an object.
An object also have potential energy on account of its configuration or change in configuration .
Energy possessed by an object in motion is called its kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy of an object depends on the two factors:
Energy stored in an object on account of its position, configuration or state of motion .
Energy stored in matter due to its chemical composition .
Heat is a form of energy which gives the sensation of warmth.
Form of energy
which enables us
to see the objects
Energy generated by the movements of electrons from one point to another.
Energy possessed by a magnet due to which it can attract iron filings.
A vibrating body possesses the sound energy.
Energy released during the splitting of an atom.
Nuclear fission: a nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits and releases energy.
Nuclear fusion: a nuclear reaction in which atoms of low atomic number fuse to form heavier nucleus with the release of energy
Energy emitted by sun which enables us to see surrounding.
Energy possessed by a muscles of a body
The process of changing energy from one form to another form is known as inter conversion of energy.
Potential energy to Kinetic Energy
Chemical Energy to Heat Energy
Electrical Energy to Sound Energy
Electrical Energy to Light Energy
Electrical Energy to Heat Energy
Electrical Energy to Mechanical Energy
When a spring of a mechanical watch is wounded,
Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but can be transformed from one form of energy to another.
1. Total energy of oscillating pendulum remain unchanged.
As a pendulum swings, its potential energy changes to kinetic energy, then back to potential energy, then back to kinetic energy,
On a roller coaster, energy changes from potential to kinetic energy and back again many times over the course of a ride.
The water is collected in a large reservoir or manmade Lake behind the dam. In this process the kinetic energy of flowing water gets transformed into potential energy of water stored behind the dam.
Production of electricity in thermal power plant
In a thermal power plant, the major power conversion happens when heat energy from burning of fossil fuels like coal gets converted into electrical energy through a generator. The complete conversion process happens as given below:
Heat energy input→ Kinetic energy of steam→Mechanical energy of the turbine→Electrical energy output
