Hello everyone, my name is Alexey, I live in Russia in the city of Yekaterinburg. My four-legged friend's name is Pyosel. To make my dog’s name clearer to you, in English it sounds something like “Doggie”
Today I came to the forest to see the condition of my dugout. It's cloudy and raining outside. It snowed a few days ago. Spring this season is not ordinary.
When I opened the doors of the dugout, I was surprised and a little upset. There is a lot of water inside. Most likely this happened due to the fact that there was a lot of snow this season, and the second reason for this was that I did not clear the snow from the dugout, as was the case last year. The snow on the roof melted and water flowed inside.
I took a shovel to try to open the door and measure the depth of the water. I can't even get closer to the doors and see what's going on inside the room. I'll be back here tomorrow with all the necessary equipment.
A few days later I came to the dugout again, but without the dog. I have a lot of things with me, so I decided that I would be alone. I took with me a drain pump for dirty water, a hose and a battery.
I again tried to get inside the dugout, but I didn’t succeed. It seems to me that something inside is holding the door and preventing me from opening the door. After the pump pumped out a certain amount of water from the dugout, I tried to go inside again, I think I understood what was going on. The floor boards have risen up and are preventing the door from being opened. Using a shovel, I pressed on these boards and was able to go inside the dugout.
It's a mess inside, everything is floating and it's very cold. My feet are cold, the water is also very cold.
In winter, someone came to my dugout and left a soft toy as a gift, as well as cookies on top so that the rodents would not eat them. I have to go outside to stay warm and stay warm. It's good that I have hot tea.
I plan to light a fire and cook some food while the pump pumps out the water. Remember, I made an oven underground, today I will cook in this oven. Unfortunately, when I opened the underground oven, I saw that there was also water inside. Oh, what a pity. You will have to light a fire and cook over a fire.
But first you need to clear the area for the fire from dry leaves and grass. I also poured water on the ground around the fire to prevent a forest fire.
For dinner I have ground beef, vegetables and bread. I wanted to cook a more complex dish, but I changed my mind. I spread the sauce on the bread, then put all the ingredients, cover with a second piece of bread, put tomato and herbs on top. It turned out very tasty.
The pump stopped pumping water due to low water level, I put the pump in the drainage hole that I dug when building the dugout, the water accumulates at the lowest point.
Sometimes the pump stops pumping water because the sensor falls to the ground, this pump is designed so that it should only work when the sensor is above the pump, I secure the sensor manually so that the pump does not stop working.
After the water was removed from the room, I decided to tidy up a little. Next time I will come here and light a fire inside the stove so that the moisture that remains inside the wood will evaporate and mold will not eat my dugout.
Thanks for watching and see you next time!

So sorry to see that happened. You are extremely resourceful, I know you will get this figured out. Keep smiling. Enjoy your videos 😊

Two choices as I see it.
1) cut your loses and rebuild elsewhere, with proper drainage around the perimeter
2) tear down the dug out, dig out the perimeter and install proper drainage;
Good luck in whatever you do...

What’s causing that much flooding? And for people who don’t know, it’s not necessarily caused from rain. But if it is from rain and because it’s at a low point or slope, you can build up a barrier in the direction that the water flows from, re-routing it, in addition to digging out a trench around the dugout and installing a french drain that will drain the water downhill from the dugout, like you would do with the foundation of a new house that has a groundwater issue. You don’t have the luxury of having a sump pump and pit to go with your waterproofing, but I think that the right degree of sloping the French drain and extending it far enough away from the bunker would definitely help. I’m not explaining everything perfectly but I could draw up some rough prints and sketches that would show what I’m talking about. It might not be possible in that location, but unless you’re getting flooded by groundwater—an underground spring or a high water table—it’s probably doable. The question is whether it would be worth the effort and with no guarantee it will work, or just relocate. You look like you probably already know all that, but not everyone does and especially if you haven’t been a plumber or worked in excavation. I was a plumber and did excavation work as a backhoe operator, in addition to just about every type of work as an operator before becoming a plumber. I’m not a civil engineer, although I’ve worked for a number of them, and I’m not a Master Plumber, but I’ve seen a large variety of situations and problems. I might be wrong about some of this because I’m applying methods that are used in construction and houses and large buildings, not a hole in the ground. But I wish you well with whatever you decide to do.

I got bad news my compadre. If it flooded once it’s gonna flood again. That’s the nature of hydrology.

Нет ! Землянка это проще, но в месте где защищён от затопления, в этом случае избушка на курьих ножках была бы лучше😂😂🎉

That's the problem with a basement/dugout.
Try a hill, and dig into it. That way, you can add drainage around the sides, and it drains down, rather than in.
I remember when you first started this dugout. You've learned a lot by building it.
Yeah, I would keep it. Even if it floods again and again, you don't tear down a house. This place is an icon.

And that's why people don't live in holes in the forest.
