Pianos really are just amazing contraptions! So many tiny moving parts.

Huh, that exolains why I've got a couple "sticky" keys like that on my old piano. Poor thing hasn't been tuned in almost 20 years

You are amazing! Greetings from India! Wish there was some one as Knowledgeble as you here . I am a piano teacher and here we get only tuners and not technicians who can know the problems like u do! Keep them videos coming sir.

ProTek is a temporary fix for tight center pins, in many cases. Chances are you may be returning to this customer again soon, after it dries, to repin the hammer flanges.

If the piano is in a non-humid climate and hasn't been used for many years, it may simply need to be played more to prevent the pins from sticking again.

It‘s not just due to „getting old“, but more likely due to humidity and maybe not being played enough

The owner of my school has a piano that hasn’t been tuned since 1913, I’m in India, don’t bother. It’s been through floods and people say nothing can be done about it but like it’s beautiful

I don't use Protek anymore. I think in about a handful of pianos, it'd probably do well, but most pianos, you just have to accept that you're going to have to repin those flanges. This problem is swelling, and that's most often caused by moisture and humidity. "Just use some Protek, " is what all of these techs, say. That's great! Now, give a suggestion that'll actually solve the problem and doesn't ignore the problem it causes for the rest of the piano. Did you check the jack pins or the whippen pins? It DID occur to you that those are probably sticking too, right?

Lighter fluid also a good alternative, cleans the grime right off the pins. Not the cheap grill lighter fluid, the good stuff used in zippo lighters and such.

That's literally the problem with electric pianos 💀💀💀

Protek CLP is a temporary solution. After some time it will be worse than before. Only replace the center-pins is solution. Alternatively, heating the center pins.

so you're saying I didn't have to repin 40 individual pivots on my piano? that would've been good to know a week ago..

That black and white shot looked like slo-mo, but it wasn't. Brilliant work!
