Per Whiskey Riff: April 9th - Democrats have had a hard time finding a new leader for their party after Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump. There are many who still consider Harris to be the leader of the party, but she’s pretty much been MIA since her election loss. Tim Walz seems to want to be the face of Democrats, but nobody really takes Governor Jazz Hands seriously when he says things like he could kick Trump supporter’s asses. But anyway, one of those Republicans who would be perfectly happy with AOC as the face of the Democrat party is the outspoken Senator from Louisiana, John Kennedy. If you’re not familiar with Kennedy, the plain-spoken senator is well known for his hilarious one-liners, and he recently joined some of his fellow GOP senators for a chat with Sean Hannity on Fox News where he gave his unfiltered take on AOC and the state of the Democrat party: “I consider Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to be the leader of the Democratic party. She’s entitled to her opinion, I’m entitled to mine. As I’ve said about her before, I think she’s the reason there are directions on the shampoo bottle. Our plan for dealing with her is called Operation Let Her Speak.”

Per Wikipedia: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born October 13, 1989, also known as AOC, and is an American politician and activist serving since 2019 as the U.S. representative for New York's 14th congressional district. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez was born in the New York City borough of the Bronx. Her family later moved to Yorktown Heights for school. She attended Boston University, where she double-majored in international relations and economics, graduating with honors. She moved back to the Bronx, becoming an activist and working as a waitress and bartender. On June 26, 2018, Ocasio-Cortez drew national recognition when she won the Democratic Party's primary election for New York's 14th congressional district. She defeated Democratic Caucus chair Joe Crowley, a 10-term incumbent, in what was widely seen as the biggest upset victory in the 2018 midterm election primaries. She easily won the November general election, defeating Republican Anthony Pappas. She was reelected in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Taking office at age 29, Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest woman and the first female member of the Democratic Socialists of America to be elected to Congress, alongside Rashida Tlaib. She advocates a progressive platform that includes support for worker cooperatives, Medicare for All, tuition-free public colleges, a jobs guarantee, a Green New Deal, and abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She is a prominent leader of the left-wing faction of the Democratic Party, and a member of progressive congressional bloc "the Squad". Early life and education: Ocasio-Cortez was born in the New York City borough of the Bronx on October 13, 1989, the daughter of Sergio Ocasio-Roman and Blanca Ocasio-Cortez. She has a younger brother named Gabriel. Her father was born in the Bronx to a Puerto Rican family and became an architect; her mother was born in Puerto Rico. The family lived in an apartment in the Bronx neighborhood of Parkchester until Ocasio-Cortez was five, when they moved to a house in suburban Yorktown Heights. She said her family raised enough money to buy a small home there so she could go to school, and that her mother worked as a house cleaner in the town. Ocasio-Cortez attended Yorktown High School, graduating in 2007. In high school and college, Ocasio-Cortez went by the name of "Sandy Ocasio". She came in second in the microbiology category of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in 2007 with a research project on the effect of antioxidants on the lifespan of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. In a show of appreciation for her efforts, the MIT Lincoln Laboratory named a small asteroid after her: 23238 Ocasio-Cortez. In high school, she took part in the National Hispanic Institute's Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session. After graduating, she became the LDZ Secretary of State.
