Tom looks like a typical guy, but his life is not so ordinary. He has Asperger’s syndrome – high functioning form of autism. Sarah, his loving single mother, has become obsessed with sheltering Tom from the outside world. Without noticing that her love is limiting Tom's independence she is unaware of his capabilities.

This is a really well-produced film; we get to see both sides of each situation and the tug of emotions is very empathetic.

I don’t fully understand what he says to the friend - the final line - and why, what it means, what he is referring. Does he say he wants his mother to start seeing him like everybody else? Why?

Very good, but I would suggest not using functional labels in the description. It just describes how well someone can hide their autism and is often described as abilist (discriminating against neurodiverse people) which I know you don't want to seem. Which is why I thought I would inform you about it.
