Possum Shuts Down Subway Entrances

9.24.19 | by Adam Balhetchet | DOWNTOWN, Brooklyn - A possum shut down subway entrances to the Jay St/Metrotech station early Tuesday morning. Police and MTA stuff taped off the entrances to avoid contact with the public. ESU was on the scene to apprehend the possum without incident. The perp, male, possum was taken into custody for allegedly "just standing there not doing nothing."

Aww, poor thing is just scared. FYI, possums are NOT aggressive at all. That hissing with those sharp teeth is actually just a bluff. I mean, they’ll defend themselves if pushed, but they’re much more likely to play dead than fight (hence why they are common roadkill - they freeze in headlights). So, much like racoons, if you encounter one that is acting erratic or aggressive, that’s a sign it could have rabies and you should stay far away.
