I’m 24. I was fired when I was 20 during COVID. Target had no one working in electronics but myself at the time. I think I had like 4 meal violations in 6 months from this problem-when guests would come in (usually to buy TVs cause they take so long to move and no one else does it…) I worked in sales before Target and was very adamant about my guests being able to make their purchases as quick as possible with little hassle. So if needed I would stay a bit past my 5th hour for the guest. Company policy was used to fire me in that scenario.

However it really went back to me standing up for myself when a manager a few days before started to cuss and yell at me on the sales floor for allowing someone to buy a vacuum without me putting a lock in it while they took it to the front of the store to purchase (mind you they did purchase it and had no intention to steal). Looking back if I knew how to look at things in the corporate world as I do now-I shoulda sued for retaliation. I’ve had a lot of growth both professionally and academically since then, I will never have to take a job in retail again with the development I’ve pursued. Yet I still feel very wronged almost 4 years since that whole situation-not because I regret not being able to work there, but because I legit was termed for speaking up instead of taking a public humiliation.

Shortly after I got a lot of unemployment at the time due to covid policy and me having been worked like 20-40 hours since I was 16 years old. And when I started working again I was grateful to have been able to find something that helped me complete my bachelors with ZERO debt.

Fuck Target tho- their HR often operates for the operations rather than to protect the business and its practices as an equal department within the company. That’s what I perceived from all of that.
