Impeccable timing. At 39 years old I’m starting college again. I’m not scared just a little nervous. I’m going for Safety/Occupational Analyst. I think this community as well as my investing community really gave me the confidence to go for my goals.

I can second The Math Sorcerer's advice to read with pencil in hand. I will work out some of the examples in the text, check point exercises, and then at least all of the problems with answers (so I can check my work). The act of writing can help commit what you are learning to memory, which is something I was told many years ago but failed to put into practice.

Best advice I would say is schedule time for all your assignments, projects, essays, upcoming tests/quizzes. This applies to any class.

To me while prepping of college is good and all, you have to be really careful to not burn yourself out.I dont think its that important to know everything beforehand but to nurture and keep that hunger of knowledge.
What i am also doing is having the tims of my life playing video games and watching shows I have on my watchlist. This is to prevent any distractions further on as I re enter college

Perfect timing for me, will (hopefully) start studies in august and need tips for prep. My uni has almost all courses open so i can see all lectures/exams i will take so its easier for me to see what I have to learn now. Thanks for advices.

If you are gonna study STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), calculus will be needed. It's good to have a head start there. So I strongly recommend studying calculus right now intensively. Who knows what other difficulties you might have? There are various hurdles you might have to cope with (English language, tests and exams, fitting in, etc). The toughest thing for most students is usually calculus. When I was back in college, calculus and all math was easy for me since I've studied it all in high school. What's more, studying in college was relatively easy for me as I knew far more math than calculus. My math skills even started to stagnate as I didn't have that much time on math in college anymore. I had other issues and agendas to attend to. In HS (high school) I did math 24-7 and thought I would be a pro mathematician 🙂
To recap: start with calculus and should you have any gaps in elementary algebra and trig, fill those gaps, like, yesterday. This advice holds if you are gonna be in STEM. Most students have problems with calculus and college math. Prepare for that.
Now then I have more general advice too: Don't buy new expensive textbooks in physical format--buy them in electronic format as required by the college. I mean you can also (and you probably should) buy physical copies of older editions as those are significantly cheaper, especially second-hand ones. They are pretty much the same anyway. Very few changes occur from edition to edition. The material might me kind of reshuffled but it's gonna be basically the same. It holds for other subjects too, not just for math.
And good luck with your studies!

i tried using derivatives, complex analysis, even some statistics & probabilty, but none of them led me to what your name is, math sorcerer.

Blitzer older editions can be found online, in pdf.

You should ask the institution you're applying to how to prepare for the placement test. If there is one, in my case there will be.
