Communications Minister Michelle Rowland says the Albanese government takes seriously its “obligation” to online safety and the reduction of harms facing Australians.

Sky News can reveal Liberal Senator Alex Antic has told the Coalition party room he will cross the floor to oppose the social media ban bill.

“We also want young people to imagine a world where social media does not have to constantly fuel their thoughts, drive their anxieties or determine their sense of fitting in,” Ms Rowland told Sky News Australia.

“There are enough pressures already in the teenage years and the Albanese government is taking a stand to say that access to social media does not have to define connection in this country.”

I'd love to imagine a world where our Government doesn't lie to us and drive up my anxiety, fuels my thoughts or determine my sense of fitting in and I'm a senior citizen

Very Slippery!! Taking the high moral ground to 'protect young people' as a back door to enact incremental policy that will enslave Australians! This is Governmental over reach sold under the unctuous banner of concern.

Only the teenagers will bitch about this. Social media is fucking up young people, girls especially. There does need to be something in place to keep them off of it until they're at least 15. The amount of idiocy in young people today is staggering - and social media is to blame. People were never meant to interact this way. We aren't designed to.

This abysmal attempt at legislation was nothing more than a pathetic move to divert attention away from Labor's disasterous failed "cost of living" exercise.
