Do you really need expensive pens to draw?

A fine liner and a ballpoint pen are fundamentally different, we can’t forget that. I use both, liner for my coloured works and ballpoint for my sketches. Different tips create different textures.

I love drawing with ballpoint pens. Especially blue ones. There’s just something so satisfying about it.

I love the black BIC Ballpoint Pen. I love how you can make the lines lighter or darker depending on what you want to do. Does great for shading. Both the cheap and expensive pens work great together. Cheaper for the initial sketch and shading and darker for those lines you want to really pop

I like ballpoints personally because it fits with just how I draw when I even draw, but I’m sure everyone has their tastes.

I always sketch with a ball point pen but the free flow one although has some restrictions to shading, Is also nice.

Different tools for different tasks kinda way

They have very different textures/flows and I could easily see someone using both in a single drawing for different parts

I used to work at a movie theater and did so much drawing with a ballpoint pen and loved it.

I’m obsessed with the basic blue bic pens. Some of my best line art sketches have come from that thing. The ink flow is perfect 9/10 times. The control is good. The only drawback is le blue colour. Idk why but the black version of the same pen hits different.

fineliner would definitely be much better with shading styles such as hatching or crosshatching, also the line consistency matter lots

I love using both of these, although I always use pens just for random sketches and an actual lineart pen for full & colored drawings

I think the fine tip is meant for outlines because it makes it bolder but the ball point pen definitely wins the shading

I think they're both good, Just different styles, you are a good artist, i'm pretty sure you can draw cool stuff with any material

i actually love drawing w ballpoint pens. idk, they’re definitely not made for art, but the texture it gives the art is so cool.
