Tig Welding with ER70S-2 vs ER70S-6

While I was tack welding some hot rolled steel plates, I decided to experiment with er70s2 and er70s6 Tig Filler metal. For me the differences have always been subtle. But I did discover one situation where er70s6 seemed to perform better.

I just want to say thank you for making these videos. I have a scratch start tag welder and you are one of the only sites, I can find consistent info. I might not become a world class welder, but I am a lot farther than I was a year ago.

I started welding school tuesday. I was assigned a booth today and sitting under the table...a tig finger. I couldn't believe it and thought what luck...the guy came back looking for it today hahaha. I just ordered the double pack with the XL and regular. At least half the students that are almost done have them. We all love your videos. Thanks for taking the time to do all you do. My best, Mark.

Yes there are other choices in welding channels out there, but. You have the best arc shots, best descriptions, knowledge about the processes and equipment used. Your videos are of the 1st order, sir. Thanks for making them every week!

Jody, I have just purchased my first TIG welder. (Eastwood TIG 200 ac/dc) I have watched almost every tig welding video you have posted. I just want to say as a noob to TIG you make it so I can understand what you are trying to covey with the visuals you use In your videos. I have everything now so, I will be doing my first welds tomorrow. I am confident that I will have success. thank you for the time you put into these videos. I for one am grateful.

Thanks for the mig to tig wire trick. No shops open that had tig wire here one weekend and I remembered this tip, bought a small pack of cheap mig wire and suddenly I had a new uncle named Bob. Weird...

Jody. I'm NOT a welder. But I absolutely love it, and I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I possibly can. I work with an old time fabricator thats been doing fab for years, and he's teaching me soooo much. Mostly tig, but some mig as well. I'm very grateful, not only for him, but for you, and these incredible vids you so freely share with the rest of the world. I've learned as much, or more from you, as from my great friend, and co worker. Having said that, I've subscribed to your channel, and recently ordered a tig finger bundle from the Weldmonger store. The original, and XL, and I can't wait to get them! I intend to show them to my buddy at work, and let him use them. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. I love your videos, and think you do a fabulous job teaching, and helping wanna be welders like me!

Thanks for showing this. My LWS always recommended ER70S-2 for GTAW and ER70S-6 for GMAW for hobby welding mild steel, so that's what I've been using. Never did the comparison before, but seeing this video I can better tell the difference.

Jody, I've commented before on what I think you have done for welding education and again, it unmatched. Additionally, odds not just for the newby. Been welding 35 years and NEVER checked out the difference in the root side of S6 vs S2. I plan on rooting 2 pipes soon to note the difference.

This was a great one, thanks J. When I had a mobile rig and fab company, a few times I was bewildered by the S2 not performing like I thought it should over the S6. Now I see it was just behaving 'normal' according to its characteristics.

Great stuff Jody. You have the best welding channel on the web. Your TIG fingers rock. I use them all the time. Fred

I learned something subtle and new. Thank you. I work in a dirty shop and never could make a difference in my oxide inclusions, whilst TIGing. I will give this a try.

I spent close to 10 years of steady Tig welding mild steel with s6 because that's what my employer provided. Finally got some s2, and it was so much better for what I was doing. S2 welded so much cleaner. And the porosity that would just appear out of nowhere disappeared. I talked them into switching and now s2 is my go to

Your videos are the best by far! No other channel is even close! All I know about welding is from you!
