A-League ladder predictions 24/25
1. Sydney FC- I don’t like to be too confident about my own club but our squad looks the most impressive. Our attack looks really strong with Douglas Costa, Lolley and Klimala as a front 3. I think our defence is the only area I feel we could struggle with this season.
2. Central Coast Mariners- This could backfire massively because of how much quality has departed like Nisbet, Farrell, Balard and Vukovic. However the club has replaced them well with Mcalmott, Sainsbury, Mauragis and Pavlesic replacing them. I think they’ll be dethroned but they will still have a strong season and could be a decent shout for 2nd.
3. Wellington Phoenix- They lost a few big players like Old, Kraev, Paulsen and Surman but I think Italiano is a great coach and they’ve made some interesting replacements with visa signings and a few young NZ prospects and I think they’ll be a consistent side and finish 3rd.
4. Macarthur FC- Winning another Australia cup could mean bugger all because the last time they won it they finished bottom of the league with teams like City shipping 7 goals past them. However this squad is looking very strong despite the off field drama at the end of last season. Crucially they’ve still got Valere Germain upfront and I think Marin Jakolis could be a strong contender for a potential Johnny Warren medal this season. Brattan is another good signing as well as that Belgian CB. They’ll make finals comfortably imo.
5. Melbourne Victory- a bold prediction from me but I feel like despite all the quality this team has they’re in for a slightly underwhelming season. The squad is looking a lot like a Popovic team and we’ve already seen a bit of tension since Kisnorbo has come in. Victory have had a pattern of having a strong year like last season before having a nightmare year before like the season before when they had Nani and nearly finished wooden spoon. But I think they’ll make finals because this squad is looking very strong.
6. Melbourne City- Losing the greatest A-League goalscorer as well as Tolgay Arslan and Curtis Good isn’t ideal but they’ve made some interesting replacements in Kuen, Cohen and Trewin. I think they’ll surprise many ppl and improve from last season and make finals and sneak in 6th.
7. Aukland FC- nearly swapped them with City but I think they’ve done a good job building they’re first A-League squad and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do make finals and are a serious threat this season. Their visa signings like Sakai, May and Vestraete look promising and all the All-whites talent and local NZ talent makes this team look like an exciting prospect under Corica. But it’s their first year and I think they’ll need time to blend together. Looking forward to the NZ derby though.
8. WSW- they’re squad looks amazing like it does every year on paper. Bringing in Mata, Kraev, and the Korean guy makes this squad very exciting as well as signing some of the best players in the NPL. They haven’t signed a whole new team like every other year despite offloading a lot of players. However, it’s Western Sydney Wanderers. It’s a common theme for them to build an amazing squad just to be an underwhelming mess. I think they’ll have a few sloppy results and mid out on finals again.
9. Perth Glory- A new era of ownership could be the change this club needs. They were a laughing stock last season but they’ve recruited well. Bringing in some experienced heads like Risdon and O’Neill who know how to win the league as well as some tidy players like Pennington and Gomulka as well as some relatively young visa players. I think Perth Glory could be a dark horse but I think it’s a big ask for Zdrillic to take a squad from the wooden spoon to finals in his first year.
10. Adelaide United- losing Irankunda, Ibusuki and Toure are losses upfront but I think they’ve made some good replacements. Vriends could be the signing they’ve been crying for to fix up their woeful defence and Folami and Pierias are severely underrated wingers. They got rid of a lot of dead wood and they’ve got a lot of exciting young talent. Archie Goodwin and Amlani Tatu are in for good seasons I think. However I think they’ll struggle defensively and there’s not enough proven quality for me to think they’ll finish higher.
11. Brisbane Roar- I thought they’d be a strong contender last season but they were a bit disappointing. They’re squad this season is full of unknowns and question marks. Players they’ve brought in like Acosta, Struijk, Ferkranus, and Bility could be good but they’ve also signed 3 players from Adelaide’s bin- a team that failed to make finals last season. They’ve got O’Shea as well as Berenguer- who had a quiet debut season at the Roar, who are enough proven quality for them to have a disaster and I think there is a chance they could prove me wrong and do better than my prediction.
12. Newcastle Jets- I’ve predicted them to finish 12th 3 years running but in reality this Jets squad depth is very thin. They’ve used their resources well I think and interestingly this is the only team in the A-League where they don’t have a single player in their 40’s which just goes to show how ridiculously young and inexperienced the squad is. They only have one visa player used out of the 5 available spots in Wellissol- who needs a strong year to recover the goals that they’ve lost by selling Stamatelopolous. I hope they succeed but there’s little known quality and Stanton has a big job ahead getting this young squad up the table.
13. Western United- a wooden spoon looks on the cards for Western. Only two fairly big signings were made by bringing in Ibusuki- a guy who scored 11 goals last season and Russell from WSW. The squad has a lot of local Western academy talents which os good for the club’s future but only the Jets have a younger squad than them and with a lot of quality being lost like Penha, Wales and others, Western’s squad depth looks very thin and I think their in for a tough season. Hopefully their new stadium provides some atmosphere for them.

Can’t wait for the season to start, feel like the 5th-10th places could be a very tight contest

Very keen for the F3 derby as always

I can mostly agree with this, I would just switch the Roar with Western United, and McArthur and Auckland. McArthur is strong, but I'm not sure about their consistency. And I think you are underestimating how much Ibusuki can do.

WSW may do alright.

(Every big blue between sydney and victory is going to be insane this season)

To be fair its hard to disagree with this predictions. Wouldn't surprise me if the Roar are bottom at New Years cause in the first 7-8 weeks of the season, only 2 home games and the lack of competitive game time will only benefit the opposition

Yo Coast, banger video like always! I completley agree with Sydney FC in 1st they have nearly a perfect squad, I met Kucharski and asked if he would score in the derby, let me just say the man has confidence. Melbourne City I think they make it either 7th, 5th or 6th and get knocked out in the elimination final, last season they did not look too promising while their rivals were in paradise by making it to the final. This season there are so many quality players and veterans leaving with so many people coming in I find it hard for them to adjust. Give them a season or 2 then they will back in their prime 🔥. Coast what do you think?
