SAGA 2nd Edition – An In Depth Analysis | Part 1

A new edition of a well-loved game often generates much gnashing of teeth and beating of chests. New editions come in one of two main forms; an iteration of the old game encompassing the little (and not so little) changes that FAQ’s and errata bring, or wholesale changes that completely rebuild the game, sometimes in an unrecognisable form. Which leads us to Studio Tomahawk’s Saga and the new edition of those rules. Is this an tweak or a new game?

The only thing that anyone needs to know about this game is that it is always out of print. You can seldom get the sourcebook you want, dice are never in stock anywhere and production runs appear to be in the dozens when they need to be in the thousands. This is a brilliant game being ruined by the publishers and possibly also by GB who are the main distributor. If you won't stock it, we can't buy it - and as wargamers we WILL go and buy something else. Maybe we will come back - but probably not.

I don’t like the movement changes. Going to make the type of maps you can realistically play on very restrictive to sparse terrain without making it painful unlike last edition. Forget a battle in a town!

I think most direct path to destination would have worked better.

You were incorrect about resting a unit. The rules clearly state on page 31 that a unit may only rest once per turn.
