How to Replace Broken Kohler Canister Flush Valve to Fix Fast Running Toilet

If you have a Kohler toilet then you may have the new 3 inch canister valve system. The piece that holds the canister to the toilet has a quarter turn to release it. But sometimes the piece that holds it in place breaks.
In this video, I’ll go over exactly how I fixed mine and how to adjust the water level when you’re done.
To replace the Kohler canister flush valve is pretty easy. You may have to replace the seal as well, but the new canister comes with a new seal already attached.

Thank you so much for this video! The guys at the plumbing store told me I had to remove the whole back of the toilet. I did that and then when trying to figure out how to take the bottom part of the fill valve out I saw your video and realized that I didn’t need to replace that part. Would have taken me 5 minutes to fix had I seen your video first! I did have to order the part which with shipping was about $30 because none of the 3 local plumbing stores had this part for Kohler toilet. Thank you so much for the great video!

Thanks. I bet all that genuine Kohler plastic was expensive when you had to buy the kit with both the base and canister top.
I have all Kohler bath fixtures and the drain stopper has a cheap plastic center spine that breaks in normal use. Kohler says to contact Customer Service to replace but I haven’t tried.

Thank you so much! Mine was luckily, not broken. I just had to stick it in and turn it like you suggested. It had somehow come loose.

Removing and reinstalling I grab and turn that center section from the bottom instead of the top to avoid twisting and possibly breaking.
