I like that ability score bonuses aren't attached to anything. If you're not going to use them to say something about the Ancestries in your world (eg. Dwarves are hearty, Elves are graceful, etc.) then there's no reason to tie them to any character build options besides the ability scores themselves.

Thank you for covering these systems, im really looking forward to getting into Tales of the Valiant.

Mike, great video and fantastic character build!
On your spell page, your “Source” is what type of magic that your character can pull from. In this case, Clerics use Divine Magic as their source.
The three speed boxes are in case you have/gain additional movement speeds (fly, swim, climb etc).

16:45 I think Int 13 should be +1 instead of +2

Weapon Mastery vs Weapon Option: So WotC says you get damage and effect on every hit, but Kobold forces a Tactics decision so you do damage OR effect on each hit.

Started a TotV campaign with my kids . Loving the system so far!

I LOVE the ToV character creation system. Between that and the talents. It's extremely robust system that allows for so much plauer expression. I feel like this is being slept on in the wake of 5.24!
Great video!

The reason there are 3 fields for Speed is in case your character’s lineage comes with a flying, climbing, burrowing, or swimming speed.

Great Video! TOV has become my favorite 5e system. Building characters with it is fun and robust. I made a mechanist modeled after Ironman on my channel. Now I need to play him!

Hey you could mention that Kobold Press has a free Conversion Document for players to convert their favorite race/species, subclasses and spells to ToV

Fun detail with the weapon properties is that the trained martial classes (Fighter, Paladin, Ranger) get a feature that allows them to use them as a bonus action. But the equivalent of the fighting styles are now also bonus actions, so each turn they get to assess which of their options are best used that turn, without having to forgo any attacks.

I think I will be yoinking the heritage-system and choice of three feats per background for my DnD 2024 homebrew. Wish I had the money to support ToV. I rlly dig the "light" changes that are nevertheless impactful!

While not a 5E style game, I’d love to see you go through creating a character in Shadow of the Weird Wizard.

Thank you for this video, Mike. The other speeds could be for climb, fly or swim depending on lineage or class (i.e. second story rogue)

The three speeds are for basic speed, as well as special speeds like flying, climbing or swimming speeds.

Can always roll on the name. 'And so begin the heroic adventures of Two, the cleric.'

Can’t wait for them to make more subclasses. For now, my party is using TOV base character builder with WotC subclasses using the ToV conversion guide. I did try and advertise some Tome of Heroes subclasses, but sadly got no bites.

Im brand new to all this and have no idea where you got your skill values, and your 2 passive scores.

Tome of heroes has several subclasses you can use.
But yeah, only having two choices kinda sucks

I backed but only just got into looking at character creation last week. So far, I am liking TotV the best of the 5e updates, although I am not personally considering Shadowdark as a separate thing deserving its own catagory.
