Iyanla isn’t easily fazed by these folks. She smiles and keeps it moving

Her mind is not set to change. It's stuck. She doesn't want to hear the truth because that would make her grandmother A LIAR.

And that is THE TRUTH....I been there. So I finally asked my MOM the story and the book was finally closed. Didn't care to hear anyone else side. THE END!

I see where iyanla is coming from, because if she was a child having a baby who in the hell was taking or not taking care of her? then turn around and tell the baby that the mother didn’t want to be a mother! Hell she was 15! And if the person that raised her is the same person that was raising her mother, they still didn’t do a good job if she’s talking to iyanla like that!

Even if the Mother told her story, would she be telling the truth? "Sometimes" people that are close isn't going to sugar coat things and just be blunt. Can't wait to watch this episode to know the full of story.

People get defensive when the truth comes to light. Stop coming to this woman's show if you really don't want to dig that deep. I love Miss Iy.

She grew up bitter because of what she was told about her mother & because of whatever else was going on in her life...maybe she'll understand that

People are going to tell the stories that they want you to remember in order to make themselves look good. Mrs Iyanla is right. You have to hear it from the horses mouth.

This is exactly what my dad tried to do with my mom... I lived with my mom but the few times I was with my dad he would tell me about how bad of job my mom is doing with me and I believed it growing up... but looking back... I could slap myself for believing all the negativity he was talking about her because all she did was do the best she can!!

Thank you Iyanla!!! I’m so for what you just said. No one has that right to tell YOUR story & worst to tell a child something like that. There’s no need to lie but there’s always a time & place for the appropriate time to tell person something. What’s wrong w adults?

Its all well and good to say "nobody gets to tell your mothers story"
Mothers are human beings too, What if mother is lying through her teeth?
Daughter needs the truth, It does not matter who tells her that truth.

Oh GOSH!!! How I Love Ms Iyanla! NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL A CHILD, THEIR MOTHER’S STORY!!! I don’t think there’s any way for me to appreciate this concept enough!!! It’s like placing a curse on a child, and making them become burdened with the negative theory of their mother, which is the fundamental root of creating sadness, anger and dysfunctional behaviors in children, who then grow up to be sad, angry and dysfunctional adults. 😌

I TOTALLY understand what iyanla is saying. I was alienated from my father based off of others (including my mother) trying to tell his story.

He told me his story when I was able to understand and put two and two together. My mother was bitter, so his story never sounded right coming from her bitterness. My father loved the HELL out of me.

I don't understand how ya'll really think you can stop family from spilling tea! Lol! Granted, it's not right, but the Mother should have been there to tell her own story! Now the disrespect wasn't cute either... I have a feeling in her head she was like "well wtf was I supposed to do!?" Me personally, if my mother wasn't in my life, I'm most def looking for the answers wherever I can find them...because waiting on her might take forever, or never!

I completely understand where Ms. Iyanla is coming from, I have two nephews that I help raise. I would NEVER and have never spoken ill of their mother to them. When they have questions like why mommy can't be there. I just tell them to ask her directly when she comes to visit but I'm here for them now in her place. I

When Iyanla asked “have you ever asked your aunt?” 0:34 her toned seem to suggest that perhaps her Aunt could offer some clarity. But then when the girl said yes and began to explain Iyanla says “inappropriate”. If no one gets to tell your mother’s story I wonder why she asked if she had inquired about her mother’s story to someone else?

Somebody else has to tell the story when the mother is gone and the child asks "Why isn't mommy here?" and the child deserves the truth.
