It’s like going to the North Pole but still wanting to go further north.

You are always so clear! Love that. I do rather think that the multiverse stuff may be the answer but because it’s beyond our knowledge capacity we can just never know…

The right answer is, WE DO NOT KNOW. Period.

It's plausible that outside our own universe there's also some reality(multiverse) that has something like a time dimension. But we have zero evidence and no means to get any. So before time isn't necessarily a nonsense concept, but we have no way of knowing....But when someone talks about before the big bang, it's almost guaranteed they know none of this, are thinking of regular old time, didn't actually think about or research it in the first place, and were just trying to have a gotcha...

I'm a very devout agnostic atheist, and it's the one thing I struggle with. It in no way compells me to consider a god, but it is a mind fuck. LOL

I totally agree, but let's not pretend that justifying unfalsifiable propositions is some kind of problem for the people you're arguing against...

What if universe's always existed, and a new one is created, when the matter sucked into a black hole is eventually ejected out of the back end, into an empty void. That which we call " the big bang" could be this process.

Time is something we invented to make some sense of our lives but what makes no sense is the "therefore God"

The concept of time did not exist when time came into existence

We do not know, but i disagree that it makes no sense. Wouldn't it be possible, if, for example, the Big Bounce theory is right, that there was a universe in which time was passing just like in our current universe, then this universe stopped expanding and started to retract, until it became a singularity... if that's so, when it became a singularity, there was no time anymore, and with the Big Bang, time started to exist again... but in that case, there was a time before time existed, it was the previous universe's time that existed before our universe's time existed.
Am i clear? I am no scientist, so if one of you is, feel free to explain to me (in simple words, especially since english is not my language) why i'm wrong (if i am).

Are we assuming that T=0 is the beginning of Time or is T=0 just a datum along Time?
Best thing to say is "We don't know".

Time is what makes existence.
If there was a beginning of time, then there was nothing before it.

Since there is no moment in time that the universe has not existed it is essentially eternal for all intents and purposes.

In actuality..TIME started once WE named it..WE created TIME when WE named it....

Wasn't it Two and a Half Men before Big Bang??

Sigh. Showing myself out _again_ ....

It's like asking, "What was your life like before you were born?" But even that metaphor isn't complete

Nate should ask himself "what happened before "god" created the universe and man?" instead of asking atheists what happened before the big bang.

My personal opinion is there are billions of universes, living and dying. Just like there are billions of galaxies. Billions of stars, on down. And there are probably billions of groups of universes and so on. It is truly infinite, or at least so big it may as well be.

It was only "our time" that began with "our" big bang.

justincredible.
