Flexible Cystoscopy

Flexible cystoscopy is a medical procedure in which a thin, flexible instrument called a cystoscope is inserted into the urethra to examine the bladder and urinary tract. The cystoscope has a light and a camera that allow the doctor to see the inside of the bladder and urethra.

Flexible cystoscopy is commonly used to diagnose and monitor conditions such as bladder cancer, urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and prostate problems. It can also be used to perform certain treatments, such as removing small bladder tumors or placing stents in the ureters.

The procedure is usually performed in a doctor's office or outpatient clinic and typically takes only a few minutes. Before the procedure, a local anesthetic gel is applied to the urethra to numb the area and make the procedure more comfortable. During the procedure, the cystoscope is gently inserted into the urethra, and the doctor slowly advances it into the bladder while examining the bladder lining. After the procedure, patients may experience mild discomfort or a burning sensation during urination for a short time.

Just say there can be pain…I hate when they say if there is, it’s quick. I’ve heard that with other procedures. They don’t say that the “quick” pain they’re talking about can be traumatizing…they don’t care about that. And you’re not informed about that when they have you sign the informed consent. I went through cancer and was shocked at the disconnect these doctors have with their victims.
