Major regulatory initiatives to reduce tobacco-related disease and death are in progress at the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). CTP is continuing the rulemaking process for its proposed rules to remove menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars from the market, reviewing premarket tobacco product applications from e-cigarette manufacturers, and planning to propose a rule to reduce nicotine in cigarettes and other combusted tobacco products to non-addictive levels. At a critical time for our nation’s youth and the millions of adult tobacco users who want to quit, this Truth Initiative Impact Series explores some of the most pressing issues facing CTP.
