El segundo sencillo de The Color and the Shape de 1997 . "Everlong" fue escrito por Dave Grohl durante su separación con su primera esposa, la fotógrafa Jennifer Youngblood.

El divorcio lo dejó solo y esencialmente sin hogar desde que ella lo echó de la casa. Para colmo de males, a los Foo Fighters no les estaba yendo tan bien como él imaginaba, y sus compañeros de banda estaban a punto de renunciar.
