Labour to cut £5 billion from welfare bill

Liz Kendall outlined plans to save about £7 billion a year in welfare payments, and said that young people would be banned from claiming incapacity benefits to encourage them back to work.

There are now 700,000 more incapacity benefit claimants than before Covid, with the number of claimants projected to surpass four million in a little over two years.

Kendall said that a £240 million Get Britain Working Plan would help wean people off benefits
