Heissafirði is a beautiful local fjord pointing out towards the northern sea and this song is the soundtrack to setting sail for a new viking adventure.

I víking
We call them the vikings, but “viking” was something you did – exploring, raiding and pillaging.

Millumspel I – Sólarupprás
Sunrise at a small village, step outside your longhouse and do a nice big stretch in the early morning dew.

Hólmganga
Holmgang was a life and death duel to settle disputes. The duel was to be fought some days after the challenge in a stone circle. If you didn’t show, you would be declared nīðing, honorless, and anyone could kill you.

Fórn Domalda konungs
King Domalda was sacrificied by his people after several years of poor harvests. They thought the Chief was not favored by the Gods and bringing bad luck.

Norðimbraland
The viking name for Northumberland, where many raided and settled.

Bardaginn við Hjörungavágr
A local battle from 986 between the Lade earls of Trondheim and a Danish invasion fleet of Jomsvikings. There was a ferocious storm during the battle which the Vikings thought to be the Valkyrie Torgerd Hølgebrud.

Millumspel II - Fiskmarkaðr í Borgund
Borgund Kaupang was a local trading town with great cod. It was also a station between Bjørgvin and Trondheim.

Óláfr hinn helgi – Cor Norvegiae
The important christian king who became a saint after his death. He died in the battle of Stiklestad.

Leita að landi
This song is about the search for land after months at sea. Maybe they find Newfoundland?

Drykkjuveisla hirðarinnar
The Hird was the king’s own guard – elite soldiers protecting the king. A proper feast would be in order after hard won victories.
