La Grecia ha giocato un ruolo di fondamentale importanza nella storia dell'umanità. Molte sono le testimonianze di quel tempo glorioso e la capitale Atene è praticamente una città museo. Nell'antica religione greca, Atena era una dea della guerra.
La collina dell'Acropoli occupa il posto principale in tutte le cartoline di Atene. Il simbolo della città ha subìto parecchie devastazioni. L’ episodio che più danneggiò l’Acropoli avvenne nel 1687 quando luna granata dell’esercito veneziano colpì in pieno il Partenone, utilizzato dai turchi come polveriera. La devastazione fu completata nel diciannovesimo secolo da Lord Elgin, ambasciatore del re d’Inghilterra, che portò numerosi marmi in patria e che ancora oggi sono l’orgoglio del British Museum. La collina è un cantiere aperto.
Nonostante la maggior parte degli edifici dell’Agorà non sia arrivata a noi in buone condizioni, possiamo comunque ammirare la Stoà di Attalo, unica struttura restaurata, che un tempo era un antico centro commerciale. Oggi ospita il Museo dell’Agorà, mentre il Tempio di Efesto è uno dei tempi dorici meglio conservati al mondo.
La metropolitana di Atene, veloce, efficiente ed economica, ti permette ti raggiungere tutti i principali siti turistici su questo sistema di trasporto; in alcune delle stazioni della metropolitana ci sono grandi repliche delle statue e dei manufatti dell'età dell'oro greca.

Greece has played a role of fundamental importance in the history of humanity. There are many testimonies of that glorious time and the capital Athens is practically a museum city. In ancient Greek religion, Athena was a goddess of war.
The Acropolis hill occupies the main place in all postcards of Athens. The symbol of the city has suffered several devastations. The episode that most damaged the Acropolis occurred in 1687 when during the siege by the Venetian army, one of their grenades hit the Parthenon, used by the Turks as a powder magazine. The looting was completed in the nineteenth century by Lord Elgin, ambassador of the king of England, who brought numerous marbles home and which are still the pride of the British Museum today. The hill is an open construction site.
Even most of the buildings of the Agora have not reached us in good condition, we can still admire buildings such as the Stoà of Attalos, the only restored structure that was once an ancient shopping center. Today it houses the Agora Museum and the Temple of Hephaestus, one of the best preserved Doric temples in the world.
The Athens Metro is fast, efficient and economical, allowing you to reach all the main tourist sites on this transport system; in some of the subway stations there are large replicas of the statues and artifacts of the Greek Golden Age.
