If only we had a government that lowered taxes so parents could afford to take of their children without dropping them off in the care of strangers.

The issue is, the libs will deem something so for votes- with ndp support of course; putting the onus on ANYone else to deal with the fallout. Conservatives knew there would be fallout and voted against. But that’s not how that vote was framed, huh? 🤨

Funny eh ! I grew up in a "working class" neighborhood where there was a delivery driver, a box truck driver, a super intendant, a painter, a few store clerks, a milkman, etc. but guess what, every one of them had a stay at home wife with at least two children and all the HOUSES were brick bungalows with 3 bedrooms, a garage, and large enough front and back yards ! That is a pure fairy tale, but I experienced it for real, been there, done that, but now IT IS IMPOSSIBLE !
PS: If their wives did happen to work too, then that household was the one with the in-ground pool in the yard, and a big camping trailer next to the car in the driveway !

I don't want to pay for someone else's kids

I don’t even have children and I think childcare was absurdly overpriced before the $10-a-day childcare initiative was implemented. I know many parents who struggled with the high cost of childcare, making choices like one parent staying home or waiting 4+ years to have another child because they could only afford to have ONE child in daycare at the same time.

It’s the childcare centres in cities like Toronto that were charging nearly $2000/month per child, which basically wiped out a single working-class parent’s monthly income. Those childcare centres jacked their prices multiple times the cost of living and rate of inflation compared to when I was a kid in daycare. I don’t have any sympathy for them because they’ve been exploiting parents for years!

Childcare centres simply need to adapt and consolidate to survive.

$10 a day? lol. You must have 400 kids a day with 2 employees in order to make any money.

… I just want to correct, you mentioned the child care program is the issue, the funding at the provincial level is what is needed. Goes on to talk about having a lean structure in the past. How are these points connected!!!

I still have no idea what this means, the opening statements made me so confused I got mad enough to post here..

Just remove governemnt from the whole business of child care. Let it float on the market. Moms can stay at home or work and pay someone else to babysit their kids, not steal any of it from taxpayers.

This is not something that should be covered. Being parents is a luxury. If you can't afford to take care of your kids, don't have them or find someone that can afford it to adopt your baby.

$0 taxpayer dollars should fund child care. Pay for your own kid.

Why this industry even allowed government to set it's pricing is beyond me. They thought they were going to make profit or create growth? You reap what you sow folks ... get the government out of your business!

the insurance cost per child for the centers is probably that.
