Our previous video touched up some critical design principles for automobile interface designs, particularly Apple’s CarPlay. In this video, we would like to give you further essential guidelines for Automobile HMI.

First, remember the three-second rule. A driver must not take his eyes off the road for more than three seconds, and this is for safety interests. When designing for automobile HMI, make sure that your users can complete what they are looking for within three seconds so they can go back to driving with full attention on the road.

The second guideline is to consider using dark colours for an automobile interface since drivers are less likely to get distracted when looking at a dark interface. A screen with a white background may cause eye fatigue and compromise driving safety.

Last but not least, always make sure that your product reports to the user what is happening now. Users want reliability and a sense of control when driving a car, so your product must have visual and auditory responses to user inputs to ease their minds.

3 seconds? remember to not apply these rules made by american and european designers because here in India you can't take your eyes off the road for even a second

It is a pity that car manufacturers do not take into account the first and most important one.

i want to be able to feel my car controls so that i can use them without taking my eyes off the road. putting things on a touch screen was insanely stupid
