CERB repayment frustration continues

A Kitchener small business owner is at the end of his rope, after being told to repay $14,000 in CERB payments. As Xiaoli Li reports, Phil Cox says his accountant even double-checked with the CRA before applying.

So, let me get this straight, the people being asked to repay the 2000 a month they didn't/don't qualify for, have been living off of less then 5000 a year, which is 416/month and not paying any ei or income taxes and all of a sudden though that in this pandemic when the government came up on the fly with a support program for these employed taxpayers, people who were losing their jobs and incomes, that they'd thro their name in the hat and see if they could get a 300% raise on what they've been living off up until now?

And this guy is probably the worst person to have as their spokesperson. Has a house, Internet and an accountant, yet can't produce a tax return of 5000 gross or net? I'm sorry but you don't have my sympathy. Many have my sympathy. But this is just freeloading and tax evasion at best.

This guy is just a liar. He survived on less than $5, 000 a year for years and years. Now he must survive on $14, 000 a year. What happened? excessive online shopping?? Such a liar!!!

Re-payment of CERB, I think the only people who should pay back are the ones who took money from both, CRA and Service Canada. That’s like 4 k per month. Most people won't be able to pay back the benefit, especially if the applied in good faith and frivolously spent it on things like Housing, Food & Medicine. At that time the CRA FEARED there would be a NATIONAL PROTEST or a SOCIAL UNREST against the Government as people need financial HELP to survive during the pandemics, and that is why the CRA had quickly approved all applications for the CERB. If any application for CERB was not eligible the CRA should not approve for the benefits in the first place, and giving out false information to the public too. Now, the CRA wants to claw-back the money from people that is a big mistake on the CRA itself. In addition to that, the Government needs help out Canadian citizens when in need !!!

I collect ODSP and did not apply or ask the goverment for any funds and
they sent me $325 direct and a letter explaining why I was eligible so
with that i felt free to spend it and then.three months later I got
another letter explaining I now have to pay it back!

Just add $1500 or so to "other Income " then you will be above the lower limit of $5000 . Yes u can go back to adjust your return up to 7 or years I believe. And fire you accountant hehe
