When I was in school we had a band of really good musicians. One day, I heard them sing this song.
The lead singer was a classmate of mine and he sang so well that day. That lazy afternoon, the whole band was like suspended sunshine, honey to the ears.
He had a beautiful, soaring voice, easily carrying the tune, the feel of the song. It was the first time I noticed his voice. Ever since I would happily wait for the songs at the end of programs, for the school musicians to perform. And every time, their music was the highlight of my day.
He was like the talented brother you root for. The only link that we shared was being in the same school for eleven years. But he's no more today. Lost the fight to a brain tumour.
I wasn't a close friend or anything, but I wished him well whenever I heard him sing, he truly had a gift.

Gone at the age of seventeen. Mortal remains to be viewed in the very church he sang in multiple times.
I wanted to pay my respects somehow, and it's not much but at least this one memory of him will live now through anyone who reads this.
One lesson I did learn was that people touch your lives with memory in the strangest of ways, leaving themselves behind long after they're gone.
