I had english menu cards where the prices were lower as the japanese ones. Simply because they did not update the english one when rising the prices.

One tip that's universal in most countries: don't buy ANYTHING at the airport unless you're starving and desperately need food (edited to reflect a few replies that there are a few countries which don't drastically mark up prices for everything, but they are a rare exception and this is still applicable to most airports. If in doubt, currency conversions are your friend and you can find the current exchange rate at the airport if you have no internet and just use your phone's calculator)

The real secret is to actually know where to go in tsukiji. There are hundreds of small omakase shops in there that locals go to often. I never line up more than 30 minutes for those places.

On the other hand, the English menu is rarely updated so it actually states cheaper prices in some places due to recent inflation. They still charge the full price tho lol

Never ever buy a plane ticket to Japan. You can swim there for free.

The real secret about Tsukiji is that it's good if you get there at like 6:45am because you can just grab tamagoyaki and the hand-made fresh onigiri because they open way earlier than all the other stalls. Whenever I go, I go for that super early and, by the time I'm leaving, everyone else is just starting to show up. No lines. You can find a couple good sushi stands in there too that are reasonably priced. But yeah, I'm usually out of there by 8am at the latest.

I've been to Tsukiji market. You have to go before sunrise to avoid the crowds. But they moved the market since I was last there. Best sashimi I have ever had.

I just came back from Japan and fell for all of these…Tsukiji was the biggest disappointment of our 11-day trip…even the hotel staff told us it’s where the local traders sell lower grade cuts that come from the main Toyosu wholesale fish market at highly inflated tourist prices. Never again. So many other good options around that area at half the price. Thankfully we befriended the staff who recommended some better areas

Actually DO buy a sim card at the airport if you did not buy one prior to arriving in Japan. The JAL counter has unlimited data simcards for only about $10 more than if you bought one online. BIC Camera does not do unlimited data sims.

Absolutely buy a sim card at the airport. It’s hard to find them otherwise and it’s so much more convenient to just get them at the airport. Might be a bit more expensive but saves so much time.

Ichiran Ramen is a tourist trap. There are many other ramen shops that are authentic and inexpensive in Tokyo.

Try Shizuoka Shimizu fish market, it’s only 1hr train ride from Tokyo station. Food there was great!! Local price and I was happy(I’m Japanese) Also recommend Mihono Matsubara beach, National monuments and also in Shimizu in Shizuoka. fantastic view of Fuji and pine tree coast line and ocean. Tokyo is good for shopping, step outside of big city and you’ll have more fun with less stress like I see in tourist in Tokyo.

Btw, it’s illegal in Japan to charge two different prices. Not that people don’t do it, but it’s still a crime 😅

This is what I consider to be meaningful and valuable content. It helps other people in a positive way. As an American that hasn't been able to do much traveling, if I did, I would be the first one to get overcharged and not know because of my lack of traveling and knowledge about other lands. Some tourist is going to be able to stretch their money a little further and possibly enjoy their stay a little longer because of you and your video. If nobody has told you yet today, you're awesome. ❤
