Tortoise Automatic Turnout Control With The Hare

In this video I'm going to show you how to enable your Tortoise for automatic turnout control with the Hare from DCC Specialties. While working on my project, Crossing Rock Creek, I had to insure the DCC Specialties Hare worked correctly before permanently attaching the tunnel portals and scenery.

I produced a introductory video on the Hare some time ago showing how to program the device for DCC operation of the Tortoise Switch Machine. In that video I said I would do a follow up video showing how it works to automatically trow the turnout in a reversing section that I have on my layout.

Merry Christmas Tom. I sure appreciate your videos for the entertainment, but even more so for the education. There are thousands of model railroaders, and I am one of them, that build better models thanks to you and your efforts. I think one of the best ways we can get better is meeting with other modelers, sharing ideas and techniques, motivating each other to be better than we were yesterday. Even though we've never met, you and I are part of that modeling community, and you help me every bit as much as the guys I see every month. Thank you for helping, every time you post a new video. From my family to yours, Merry Christmas, and the happiest of New Years. Ghost of SP

Really informative videos, all of them, have you tried switching more than one switch with the Hare controlled switch? I think this can be done. I'm using insulfrog switches, ds64's and the Hare. Also i know you used to gaps cut into the rail, is this not the setup when using electrofrogs? I'm just about to the point of connecting up the Hare and was thinking I'm going to try a single gap rather than like you did with a double. My thoughts though are does the second gap ( the insulfrog ) assist in triggering the Hare?

Any chance you can provide a copy of the instruction document?

I know what you mean about feeling the effects of under-the-layout work! Nice job on the turnout control.

Will this work the same way with a Smail switch machine.
