This outdoor test is terrible. Our older people issues are in social situations. Not in a park. Clanging dishes as tables are being cleared. High volume of people mostly older talking even talking at loud volumes because their listeners say they can’t understand, or hear, making hearing the person sitting across from me almost inaudible/unclear to my ears. Even the waitress has soft speech when taking my order. We need a directional sound gathering device that can focus only on the speaker while elliminating even lowering the loud garbage around the wearer. That would be MORE helpful. While 360 degree hearing would be groovy, focused cone of hearing audible speech is far far more important.

Sound reduction to sudden loud bangs, or other louder individuals near your booth? Is there any at all? Probably not. So? I figure its a mish mash of voice utensils dishes clanging, sirens wailing all of which cannot be reduced. The exact reasons we need hearing enhancement. This test was useless.

I have been using them for around two years now, and they are NOT Bluetooth capable, so they will not deliver sound directly from your phone or TV via Bluetooth like the much more expensive models sold by hearing aids stores. They say they are "Bluetooth capable" but that only refers to their ability to connect to their control app on your phone. These are just amplification devices that have bass, treble, and directional controls. They also are not rechargeable, so they require batteries, but the batteries are cheap, and they last around four days before needing replacement.

Having said that, they really DO work very well for most circumstances, and will improve your ability to hear things at a cost of 70% to 80% less than the high priced models sold by stores that are custom fitted. So these are a tremendous help for people who have moderate hearing loss and who are on a fixed income. If money doesn't matter you will be better served by buying one of those $3, 000 - $4, 000 sold by hearing aids specialty stores.

PROS:
1. Small and inconspicuous.
2. Really works. Improves your hearing experience.
3. Modestly priced, compared to the alternatives
4. Control app is very useful
5. Has good warranty and customer service

CONS:
1. Requires batteries, but the batteries are cheap
2. Cannot use Bluetooth devices other than it's own app
3. Somewhat fragile, receiving wires need replacement periodically, at $50 each

It is hard to imagine why these things cost more than a few hundred dollars, because there really isn't that much too them. They are just small plastic devices with some electronic parts. They shouldn't cost as much as a computer, a high end smartphone, or a 80" flat screen TV. There must be a huge profit in making them, or perhaps the cost of R&D is very high. But spending $1, 000 is still better than spending $3, 000 for $40 worth of parts. And if they work for you, you will be thrilled with them.

Bose has spun off their hearing aids to a new owner so they are now called Lexie, so they were renamed the Lexie B1 and are exactly the same as the Bose Sound Control hearing aids in this video. And now they have a new model out called the Lexie B2, which is very similar, but slightly larger and has rechargeable batteries. But they still are not Bluetooth capable, and their rechargeable battery only lasts around 6 hours rather than the replicable battery that lasted four days.

I'm curious how these sound in comparison to Rexton or Jabra hearing aids. Rexton and Jabra are between $1, 700.00 and $1, 800.00 usd at Costco. I know at Costco you get 2 years of free replacement and lifetime cleaning and free ear bud attachments. I've listened to cheaper hearing aids and they were not good. Curious if these offer free replacement of lost or damaged hearing aids, and lifetime cleaning and ear buds. For $1, 000.00, this would be great if they are comparable to Rexton and Jabra as well as 2 year replacement and cleaning.

Also, would be good to be able to take these into my audiologist and have them programmed from my extenssive hearing test.

If you have a Costco membership and are curious about the severity of your hearing loss, I would make an appointment to check. There is a major difference between poor quality/affordable and excellent quality/ less affordable.

I have wore a hearing aid since 5 years old. About 7 years ago my last hearing aid died on me. I live on a fix income and cannot afford one. I have been looking into these OTC and wondering do these things even have a switch to a mic for listening to phone calls? I have not been able to talk on a landline phone. Cellphone are useless were I live.

Looking for honest reviews from REAL PEOPLE. The hearing aid business (OTC and even prescription) seems to be full of pitch men and charlatans trying to get your money. It's very confusing. I'll just keep "not hearing" well.
