Bartonville's Haunted 'Insane Asylum' and Cemetery

My trip to the abandoned State Mental Hospital in Bartonville, IL. I walked around the "insane asylum" and also took a walking tour of the nearby cemetery.

Nice video, The owners are now in the process of getting the building in better shape for future use.Last year during October, they hosted campouts, zombie crawls and cookouts as fundraisers.It is a cool building with interesting history and I wish them the best of luck.Thanks for posting.

It’s now gone but as a youth, my friends and I went inside. Definitely not safe but the memories are relished.

Good video, brings back a ton of memories. I grew up about a 10 minute walk from hospital. Summer time from about 5th grade thru about sophomore yr my friends and I would b inside there or walking the tunnels around the grounds. If I remember correctly there were 3 or 4 cemeteries? One night my best friend and I stayed the night there. Second floor, it was a terrifying night. Lots of sounds and strange noises.

Sad to say, but the Village of Bartonville is actually talking about demolishing this historic building. The costs to repair it are too high. I've done work in and around the building. Its very interesting. I've also done work with the local JFL team with their "Haunted House" in one of the neighboring infirmary buildings. It would be a shame to see it go.

I don't know as I haven't really interacted with the folks involved in the renovation.I just kind of cheer them on as I drive by everyday. If you are in the area, I think they have flashlight tours on friday and saturday nights.Probably loads of fun with some friends...and there are ghosts there to keep you company.So I've heard : ^ )

now one quick question, did you get a chance to explore all five of the different cemeterys? as well as some of the other parts of the property? the last time i was here(middle of the summer of 2012) i was able to explore most of all the property that once was owned my B.S.H

In the video it says the building is privately owned now, so I wouldn't think the town would have any say in it, would you? Maybe the private owner is?

I always wanted to go inside but I didn't want to get into trouble. I never saw anything but a light on inside.
