It serves a purpose, but it's current format is a Veto not a Filibuster.

If the republicans had to verbally support- ala "Mr. Smith goes to Washington, style- the filibuster would end tomorrow. Most are too old to stand more than ten minutes at a time on the Senate floor. Plus they would not have the will to read " green egg and ham 100 times.

Another reform to consider would be a compromise between the current rule and the "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" old school rule: allow the current rule to delay Senate action for only a couple of weeks, after which the minority would need to become Mr Smith if they want to continue the delay.
And another alternative is to make the filibuster rule proportional, so that instead of 41 Senators being able to block action, Senators representing states that together have 41% of the nation's population would be able to block action. This would make it clear to everyone that the 50 R Senators represent only 45% of the nation, and the 50 D Senators represent 55% of the nation.

Many things need improvement in how Our Representives do, or do not do, their Job. They have a Responsibilty!! Let them come together for those who Trusted in them. Otherwise put Them Out, Democrat or Republican.

I've been saying this forever. The filibuster is a useful tool, but we should make them stand up there and do it if they want to grind Congress to a halt. It's far too easy currently.

I've never liked the filibuster, but in rare cases it might be an appropriate last resort. But they should have to physically do the filibuster, standing at the podium and following the rules.
