What They Mean:

“we can’t find someone who has done this EXACT SAME JOB for 10+ years and wants to keep doing it for 10 more in our company FOR LESS MONEY than what they were earning 10 YEARS AGO” 😂

It’s all a BAD JOKE

“We’re having a hard time finding people who are qualified enough for the position, but not SO qualified that we actually have to, ya know, pay them what they’re worth”

-what they actually mean

Oh no, did the private sector's chronic lack of investment in training and employee development come back to bite them?

Yea, we've also noticed there is a lack of qualified employers. Everyone is so entitled these days, especially businesses. They believe they should get the perfect employee at rock-bottom salary, already well-versed in their culture and business processes, without having to be trained. What a crock.

Employers want unicorns but do not want to feed them.

I’m seeing postings for ENTRY-LEVEL Cybersecurity jobs who want entry-level applicants to have the CEH, or CISSP. For context, the CEH has a minimum requirement of two years active experience in a InfoSec role before you can even sit for the exam. The CISSP? You have to have 5 years.

It’s not a lack of qualified applicants, it’s out of touch hiring managers and HR personnel who don’t know anything about the field they’re hiring for.

"We want a 20 year old applicant with 15 years of work experience in systems that are only 5 years old." We cant find anyone qualified!

Employers want you to have a pHD to take someone's order at a fast food establishment. No news here lol.

My pov in all of this. The level of effort that's required to find a job these days you could easily apply that same energy into building a business for yourself and family. Job hunting should never be this difficult and complex.

You are correct, I have been searching for a job for about 6 months and there are many unrealistic job offers. They are literally looking for Superman with the salary of the toilet cleaner.

If employers are saying this, it's a lie. The only thing they care about it getting the maximum out of you for as little as possible. They want you to train yourself for them just to pay you less than market rate. The market rate for most employers is less than the cost of rent and food. Nobody is worth so little. They don't even invest in their employees at all.

I'm going to pull the wild card here and demand we as a society go back to paper applications and on the job training. Online job hunting feels like online dating, a complete waste of time for EVERYONE involved.
