Three does not only have meaning for humans. My dog understands three and can distinguish it from two. If I throw three dummies, one by one at intervals, as we walk along and send her back to retrieve them, she shows clearly after bringing in the second that she knows there is one more to go. If I’ve only thrown two, then she knows she’s done after the second and shows it in her behavior. The highest number I have seen mentioned for this test is nine.

I wish Eddie would have been my maths teacher.

What classes are these? I'm in a public school in NSW as well and are these classes to do with syllabus or is it just like extra classes for students?

Maths is a language used to describe and understand the laws, patterns, and relationships that govern the physical universe. So my answer to the question is same as the answer of this question - "Is a language discovered or invented?"

The brightest teacher!! You exactly remind me of my math teacher... So brilliantt.. Thanks a lot eddie..

what would the implications of this be with regards to our physics models and how we use them to interpret/understand the world around us? If maths is invented by us wouldn't that mean thst our physics equations are inherently flawed? Our brains are quite feeble when you think of it; throw more than 20-30 skittles into a glass bowl and we basically cannot tell whether there's a 100 or 1000 skittles in said bowl

Negative numbers darken the very whole doctrines of the equations and make dark of the things which are in their nature excessively obvious and simple.” (Francis Maseres, as late as 1758)

The same argument for 3 should go for more or less.

The concept is always a step further from the human mind.
The concept of a tree always existed, the concept of three always existed.

We only organized that to our minds, not created anything.
For example, destroy every human of the planet... The laws of math dissipates? Disappears? No, they are there, just not anyone to appreciate the beuty of the creator in the creation.

Thank God He talks clearly about himself in these things.

It was both invented & discovered. Calculus is an invention to prove something irrational.

You can't divide by zero. Zero is an invention; it doesn't exist except in mathematicians' minds.

Math is not an invention (or creation)....
In that it is closer to discovery... I guess..

But I think...that math is knowledge that is brought in, for humans....
From the source....
Perhaps.... unknown.

My argument for why number systems are inventions and not discoveries: Everything in nature is perfect and works. We as humans try to describe nature and the "language" we often use is math. Our current math system relies heavily on the Decimal number system. Of all the number systems it is the best we have. Even though it describes most natural processes we discovered well, it is not perfect. For example, 1/0 is undefined. If the the Decimal System was a discovery then 1/0 would be defined and not a singularity. Therefor, number systems are a human invention and not a natural discovery. Maybe one day we will discover the true number system of nature, but as of today the Decimal System ain't it.

indians invented numeral systems and arabs learn from indians and spread in europe

There is no such thing as "a cat." Draw a cat. What colour is it? There is only this cat & that cat. A generic cat is an abstraction. As "a cat" is an abstraction from "three cats:" in the same way "three" is an abstraction from "three cats." Three is nothing without the countable object.
