To be fair, I think a backstory similar to Giyu's is more painful. Sure, Iguro's backstory was horrific in its own right; brought up in an environment full of women and offered as a sacrifice, he might have never known what love and trust is until Mitsuri came into his life. Giyu knew and understood what it felt like to be loved and cared for, only for it to be ripped away from him twice, in two different stages of his life.

Which is more painful:
- To have never known what love and trust is?
- To know what it was, only for it to be taken away from you?

Giyuu back story is very sad, but not the saddest. But what matters here if it affected them or not, when tsukato died it effected giyuu deeply, but he met sabito which made him kinda better, but sabito dying too has crushed him. Someone's whole family can die but it may not affect them...
