Groom moved to tears by surprise ‘Stand By Me’ wedding song

An Irish wedding ceremony took a turn for the emotional when guests surprised the bride and groom with a moving choral performance of “Stand by Me.”

Unbeknownst to bride and groom Rachel and Shane McNally, friend Hannah O’Brien had been hard at work training friends and family (from both sides) to sing together in beautiful harmony at the ceremony on August 3. Even the bride’s father joined the performance.

Wedding videographer Ray Yore captured this video of the performance as it unfolded in St Joseph’s Church, Carrickmacross. He told Storyful that he’d been told it would happen at some point in the ceremony, but he didn’t know when.

“It was an awesome surprise and moved everyone to tears,” he said, adding that “it was a beautiful tribute to the bride and groom.”

“Stand by Me” was first recorded in 1960 by Ben E. King, who wrote it with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
