Edison (Edson) Arantes do Nascimento aka Pelé (October 23, 1940 in Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil – December 29, 2022 in Morumbi, São Paulo, Brazil) was a Brazilian footballer who is often considered the greatest player of all time. He is the only three-time world champion in the sport. During his 22-year career, Pelé scored a record 1,283 goals in 1,363 matches, including 92 matches and 77 goals for the Brazilian national team. In the series he played in, he won the goal kingship a total of 11 times.
Pelé has 32 team championships, and is tied for first place in football with Portugal's Vítor Baía.
In total, Pelé won three World Cups for Brazil in 1958, 1962 (injured at the start of the tournament) and 1970. He is one of only four players to have scored in more than one World Cup final.
Several books have been published about Pelé, the first two in 1961. The first Pelé film, O Rei Pelé, was released in 1962.
